Adney Tree Service: Tree Removal Options Along California’s Central Coast

While the ultimate goal of tree removal may be pretty obvious, there are several different techniques our arborist-led team can employ to achieve that result. Additionally, different property owners and managers have different motivations and needs. To accommodate these varied situations, we offer a variety of different tree removal options, including:

Tree Felling Removal

The simplest method for removing a tree, tree-felling, requires an arborist to make specific types of cuts near the base of a tree, causing it to fall in one piece. Guide ropes are often used to provide greater control of the falling tree and ensure it falls in the desired direction. Unfortunately, felling isn’t always an option, as it requires quite a bit of room on the property.

Bucket-Assisted Tree Removal

When felling isn’t an option, our team can use a bucket truck or aerial lift device to raise one of our team members up to a tree’s canopy. From there, your Adney Tree Service professional will cut the tree into sections, which can then be lowered to the ground. Bucket-assisted removals are typically one of the quickest, safest, and most efficient ways to remove trees.

Climber-Assisted Tree Removal

When bucket-assisted removal isn’t possible (often because of limited access), we can have one of our professional tree climbers ascend the tree and cut it into small pieces. This tree-removal approach takes a little longer than bucket-assisted removal, as the climber must physically climb the tree. However, it is sometimes required when dealing with trees in small yards or tight spaces.

Crane-Assisted Tree Removal

In some cases, trees may be both impossible to access with a bucket truck and too dangerous to climb. In these instances, we’ll often find it necessary to use a crane during the removal process. Crane-assisted removals can take some time to complete, but they allow us to control the tree, protect your property, and keep everyone safe during even the most challenging removals.

Emergency Tree Removal

Unfortunately, trees do occasionally fall onto buildings, homes, or roads, which can not only present serious safety hazards but also limit accessibility. Compounding these problems, these situations often arise in the middle of the night or during severe weather. But the professionals at Adney Tree Service are always standing by and ready to help provide these kinds of emergency tree removals.

Zero-Impact Tree Removal

Because tree removal often involves dropping branches or trunk sections from considerable heights, it can often cause damage to properties and landscapes — especially when carried out by unprofessional, cut-rate tree companies. But we offer zero-impact tree removal options, in which we’ll gently lower all cut tree sections using ropes to protect your property and leave it in pristine condition.

Signs You May Need Tree Removal in the Central Coast California Region

It’s important to not only monitor your trees regularly but also familiarize yourself with some of the most common signs that signify that a tree may be struggling and in need of removal. So, keep an eye on your trees and have an ISA-certified arborist perform an assessment if you notice any of the following issues:

Lifting Soil Tree Care Services Adney Tree Service California

“Lifting” Soil

When the soil around the base of a tree rises, it often indicates that either the soil is losing its structural integrity, or the roots are dying or actively breaking. Either case represents a serious hazard, so keep people away from the area and contact an arborist immediately.

Crown Dieback

The progressive death of tree branches (often starting at the branch tips and moving toward the trunk) can often indicate an issue with pests or disease. If the pest or disease in question is likely to prove fatal, it’ll often be beneficial to have the tree removed sooner than later.

Mushroom Conks Growth Tree Care Services Adney Tree Service California

Mushrooms or Conks

The presence of mushrooms or conks on a tree’s trunk, branches, or root system are something arborists call a “definitive indicator of decay.” Simply put, the tree’s wood is being broken down by a fungus, which means removal is often required.

Trim Prune Cracks or Cavities in Branches Adney Tree Service California

Large Cavities

Large cavities are not always hazardous, but they can signify that a tree’s structural integrity is seriously compromised. So, always be sure to contact an ISA-certified arborist when you notice significant cavities, whether they occur in the trunk or a tree’s major branches.

Increased Lean Tree Care Services Adney Tree Service California

Increased Lean

Some trees naturally grow at a significant angle, either because that’s the species’ innate tendency or that specific tree is trying to reach more sunlight. But when a tree begins leaning suddenly, it often indicates a structural problem, which requires immediate mitigation.

Tree Removal Adjacent Trees Adney Tree Service California

Removal of Adjacent Trees

Trees growing near each other often develop intertwined root systems and help shield each other from the wind. So, when one tree in a cluster is removed, it can make other trees in the immediate area more likely to fail.

The Benefits of Tree Removal in California’s Central Coast Region

While we always try to help homeowners and commercial property owners retain desirable trees, there are clearly cases in which removal is not only warranted but also advantageous. In fact, tree removal can provide a number of benefits, including:

Improved Safety

Trees that present significant safety hazards must often be removed to help reduce the chances of injuries or property damage. And while there are a few sophisticated techniques our tree-care professionals can employ to mitigate the risks some trees present, nothing completely eliminates a tree’s risk except removal.

Reduced Litter Problems

All trees create some litter problems, often in the form of fruit, seeds, dead leaves, or even shed bark. But while these kinds of problems are often minimal, some trees produce especially problematic litter, which can cause considerable headaches. But by having these kinds of trees removed, you can say goodbye to the litter problems they cause.

Lusher Grass or Turf

It’s quite difficult to get a thick carpet of lush grass growing under many trees, as the canopy will create shade that prevents grass from growing well. This is a particularly frustrating problem, and there’s not much you can do to fix it. However, by removing the tree, you’ll enable your lawn to get the sun exposure it needs to thrive.

Space for New Trees

Not all trees are created equally, which means that there are cases in which you may want to have one tree removed so that you can replace it with a different, better specimen. Just be sure that you have the resulting stump ground, to ensure that the new tree will be able to generate a healthy, vigorous root system.

Better Views

While trees are often celebrated for their ability to provide additional privacy, they can also prevent you from seeing desirable vistas or landscapes. Some pruning techniques can help open up sightlines without requiring removal, but they’ll rarely provide the increased visibility that total tree removal will offer.

Reduced Allergy Symptoms

Living near trees that trigger your allergies can make you miserable for weeks or months at a time. And while removal won’t eliminate all of the allergens floating in the air near homes and commercial properties, it will greatly reduce the amount of pollen in the area, which will help reduce allergy symptoms.

Tree Removal in Central Coast California: FAQ

Still have questions about our tree removal services? We’ve rounded up some of the most common questions and concerns and addressed them below!

Typically, tree removal is most affordable during the winter, when crews are less busy than they are during the spring, summer, and fall.

You will usually need a permit to remove a tree on your California property, though there are exceptions. Tree ordinances in the state of California are enacted and enforced at the city or county level, so you’ll simply have to check with your local municipality to know for sure. However, Adney Tree Service will be happy to help you obtain a permit, if required.

Unfortunately, tree removal is very rarely free and you’ll almost always have to pay to have trees removed from your residential or commercial property. This includes cases in which the tree may offer some timber value; the costs associated with removing a single tree will almost always eclipse the tree’s timber value.

However, in some cases, trees growing in public easements or near sidewalks are considered city property and therefore the city’s responsibility. And at other times, the electric company may offer to remove a tree for free, if it is likely to fall on power lines.

You may be able to remove a very small tree (such as an 8-foot-tall citrus tree) yourself. However, anything much larger than this should always be left to the professionals. Countless people are injured each year while trying to remove trees, and many underestimate the hazards involved.

The cost of tree removal can vary significantly depending on the circumstances. The removal of a small, healthy, easily accessed tree may only cost a few hundred dollars, while the costs for removing a gigantic tree with structural issues and limited access may cost thousands of dollars.
