Crane-Assisted Tree Removal

Some trees can be removed with little more than a chainsaw and a length of rope to direct their fall, while others are more challenging and require the help of a climber or bucket lift to lower them safely to the ground. But trees that are exceptionally large, hazardous, or located in tight spaces may require even more elaborate tools and techniques; some require the assistance of a crane. However, while crane-assisted removals are helpful for protecting people, property, and landscapes, they are inherently more complex than standard removals, which limits the number of tree companies offering them. Fortunately for residents and property managers in the Central Coast region, Adney Tree Service remains ready to provide crane-assisted removals whenever they’re required.

Adney Tree Service: Crane-Assisted Tree Removal in the Central Coast Region

It’s always important to partner with high-quality tree care companies when having trees planted, pruned, or removed. And it is especially important for homeowners and property managers to work with professionals when crane-assisted removals are required. Cranes are massive and present safety concerns of their own, which means that it’s imperative you stick to experienced crane-operating teams, who have the knowledge, skill, and expertise to carry out the work safely and efficiently. But you don’t have to worry about this when you rely on Adney Tree Service; we’ve been providing crane-assisted removal services in the Central Coast area for more than 10 years.

What to Expect: How Does Crane-Assisted Tree Removal Work?

During a normal tree removal job, a climber ascends the tree (or accesses the top with an aerial lift), attaches a few ropes to control pieces as they’re lowered, and then begins cutting the tree into small sections. But crane-assisted removals are a bit more complicated and typically involve the following steps:

  1. Initial Assessment: We’ll start by visiting your site, reviewing the tree’s size, its condition, any hazards in the area (such as power lines or nearby buildings), assessing the terrain, and determining whether crane‑assisted removal is appropriate.
  2. Planning and Estimate: Once we’ve assessed the tree, site, and other factors, we’ll develop a plan for removing the tree. We’ll then explain the plan to you, answer any questions you may have, provide you with a written estimate, and schedule the work.
  3. Arrival and Crane Setup: On the date the work is scheduled to begin, we’ll have the crane delivered to your property. We’ll then position the crane, deploy its outriggers, prepare the ground if necessary, and set up communication lines for our team.
  4. Sectional Removal: With the crane in place, we’ll begin rigging branches and trunk sections with extremely strong ropes that’ll enable the pieces to be lowered safely. We’ll then begin cutting the tree into sections and gently lowering pieces to the drop zone.
  5. Ground Crew Operations: As the tree sections are cut and lowered to the ground, our ground crew will begin processing the individual pieces. Some will be cut into smaller sections and transported to a truck, while others will be chipped and loaded into a truck.
  6. Final Review: With the tree down and resulting debris removed from your property, we’ll review the work with you. During this time, we’ll address any concerns you may have and ensure your complete and total satisfaction before leaving the site.

Situations That Require Crane-Assisted Tree Removal in California’s Central Coast Region

Most tree removals can be carried out with relatively little heavy equipment, aside from an aerial lift (and some removals don’t even require that). But there are situations — such as the ones detailed below — that require a crane’s help to keep the nearby people, structures, and landscaping safe.

Crane-Assisted Tree Removal in the Central Coast Region: FAQ

Still have questions about crane-assisted tree removals? Want to learn more about how Adney Tree Service can utilize cranes to provide even more safety during removals? We’ve answered a few of the most common questions we hear from clients below.

All tree removal costs vary pretty significantly from one job to the next, and that’s doubly true with crane-assisted removals. Small jobs involving a crane may only cost $1,000, while complex jobs involving multiple hazardous trees may reach into five-digit territory.

Generally speaking, tree removal costs are lowest in the winter, as arborists aren’t as busy during this season as they are in the spring, summer, and fall.

You don’t always need a crane to remove a tree. In fact, many trees can be removed without the need for a crane. Cranes are typically only necessary when dealing with special circumstances, such as exceptionally large or hazardous trees or when they’re situated in difficult-to-access areas.

Crane rental costs vary from $300 an hour for very small cranes to more than $1,500 per hour for larger, higher-capacity models.

You may be able to rent a crane, but that doesn’t mean you should use one to remove a tree yourself. Tree removal is exceedingly dangerous work that’s best left to professionals. Besides, by the time you’ve assembled all the equipment you need, you’ll likely end up spending more than you would by simply having professionals handle the task for you.
