You may count on your trees for shade, privacy, and a nice bump in property value, but they depend on you just as much. To stay healthy and keep delivering those benefits, they need consistent care and the right support to grow. That’s why having a reliable team of tree-care professionals matters so much. The right experts can help your trees stay sturdy, fight off pests and disease, and grow the way they should. And if you’re in Soquel, you won’t have to look far for that kind of help:

Our shop sits at 335 Spreckels Drive in Aptos, and Soquel is only about 4 miles up the road to the northwest. Soquel Drive links the two directly, so the trip is usually under ten minutes. That makes Soquel one of the closest towns we serve, and it means you’re getting a genuinely local crew instead of one dispatched from across the county.
Being this close pays off in practical ways. We can come out for a free estimate on short notice, hold the time window we promise, and respond quickly when a storm brings a limb or a tree down overnight. Our trucks and equipment stay staged just minutes away.
Soquel has been around far longer than most of its neighbors. It grew up in the 1850s as a creekside village, and in the decades that followed its hills echoed with logging. Crews cut the “red gold,” the towering redwoods and Douglas firs of these canyons, and floated the lumber to sawmills along Soquel Creek. When the mills fell quiet, the forest came back, and much of the second- and third-growth woodland you see today grew up on that cleared ground.
That history still shapes the town. The old village along Soquel Drive stays walkable and low, with mature shade trees over historic homes and shops. Head up Old San Jose Road or Glen Haven Road, though, and Soquel turns quickly into wine-country canyons and wooded hillside lots, where big redwoods and firs stand right beside houses. Bargetto Winery has poured on the banks of the creek since 1933, a reminder of how fast the flat village gives way to forested slopes.
For tree work, that split matters. A property in the village center is a very different job from a wooded parcel climbing toward the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Up in the canyons, the trees are tall and the stakes are high. Second-growth redwoods and Douglas firs catch the wind far overhead, and their roots run shallow and wide, so saturated winter soil on a slope can loosen a grip that felt solid all summer. A big tree leaning over a hillside home is worth a professional look before the next storm, not after.
Down along the creek, water is the story. Soquel Creek has flooded the village more than once, most memorably in early 2023, when it spilled into Soquel Village for the first time in decades. Soggy ground near the water softens a tree’s footing right when winter wind is pushing hardest.
Across both settings, older trees reach points where they need real decisions. Cabling or structural pruning can save a tree worth keeping, while a declining one over a house may be past that. Coast live oaks throughout the county also face Sudden Oak Death. An ISA-certified arborist can tell you which trees to support and which have become a liability.
Because we’re just down Soquel Drive in Aptos, Soquel is practically part of our own neighborhood. We know the village, the wooded canyons above it, and the way the creek behaves when the rain really comes. When we wrap up a job here, there’s a good chance we’ll pass it again soon, and that keeps our standards where they should be.
Soquel has plenty of tree-care companies, but they’re definitely not all the same. Some focus on fast jobs and quick cash rather than giving your trees the thoughtful care they actually need. When that happens, your trees not only miss out — they can end up damaged. What you really need is a reliable, high-quality tree-care team led by an ISA-certified arborist, someone who gives every tree genuine, individualized attention. That’s exactly what you’ll find with Adney Tree Service.
Unlike many tree companies that mainly focus on removals, Adney Tree Service is a full-service team offering every tree-care solution you might need. Whether you’re planting new saplings or dealing with trees that have reached the end of their lifespan, we handle the entire process. Below are some of the most popular services we provide to clients throughout the Central Coast.
Planting new trees is always exciting, but if you want them to take root and thrive, they need to be installed by arboricultural professionals — like the team at Adney Tree Service. We understand how different species grow, what they need, and the science behind proper tree installation.
Trees can live for decades, sometimes even centuries, but eventually every tree reaches a point where it becomes unsafe or needs to be removed. When that time comes, our tree-removal experts can take care of the job safely and efficiently while keeping your property protected.
Adney Tree Service is led by an ISA-certified arborist, which puts us in a completely different league from the typical “guy with a chainsaw” outfits you see around. That level of training allows us to provide dependable guidance, thorough assessments, and precise diagnostic services to keep your trees healthy and thriving.
Whether you need a group of small trees trimmed to restore sidewalk access or you have a massive eucalyptus that needs structural pruning to remain safe, we can help. Equipped with the necessary tools, equipment, and knowledge, our tree-care experts will prune or trim your trees with precision.
Cabling and bracing are specialized techniques arborists use to support weak branch unions, improve safety, and save trees that might otherwise need to be removed. These services aren’t something you’ll usually get from a basic tree company — they require an arborist-led team like Adney Tree Service.
Wildfires are always a potential threat in Soquel, CA, but by maintaining clear, defensible spaces near structures, you can help protect your structures and property. Adney Tree Service can help in this regard and ensure you’re prepared for fire season.
Most folks notice when their trees shoot up in height, but plenty of species also spread outward as they mature — and that sideways growth can get in the way or make maintenance harder. Our tree-trimming professionals can handle that quickly and efficiently, giving your trees the clearance they need.
Bad weather has a way of knocking trees down at the worst possible moments — late at night, on a weekend, right when you’re least prepared for it. Luckily, when you call Adney Tree Service, that timing isn’t an issue. We provide emergency tree service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It’s important to take action at the first sign of trouble to give your trees the best chance of thriving. But unfortunately, homeowners and commercial property managers are often unfamiliar with the clues that indicate trouble is brewing. If you notice any of the following signs or symptoms, contact the professionals at Adney Tree Service immediately to arrange for an on-site assessment.
Cracked trunks or branches are a serious red flag, since they show the tree is already starting to fail. Still, a crack doesn’t automatically mean the entire tree needs to be removed. In many situations, we can stabilize it with cabling or bracing to keep the tree protected and safe.
Large hollows or cavities might add a little character to a tree, but they’re often signs of serious decay and weakened structure. To know whether the tree is still stable or needs some kind of mitigation, you’ll want a certified arborist to take a closer look.
Mushrooms or conks growing on a tree’s trunk, branches, or roots are clear signs of fungal activity and internal decay. Unfortunately, this kind of issue is rarely treatable, so it’s important to have a certified arborist assess the tree and decide whether removal is needed.
If you notice the soil around a tree’s trunk lifting or rising above grade, it’s a sign that the roots — or the soil supporting them — are failing. This creates an immediate safety hazard. Clear the area right away and contact an arborist for an urgent assessment.
Some trees naturally lean or grow at an angle, especially when they’re reaching for sunlight. But if a tree starts leaning more than it used to, that shift usually signals real instability — and in many cases, removal is the safest option.
Trees naturally shed branches from time to time, but when trees drop large branches (or a large number of branches over a short period of time), it can indicate problems with pests, disease, or decay. Such trees are often hazardous and should be inspected immediately by a certified arborist.
Dead or dying branches in a tree’s canopy can signal a range of problems — disease, insect activity, or even poor airflow. It doesn’t always mean the tree is in serious trouble, but the only way to know for sure is to have a certified arborist evaluate it.
Most trees can handle small insect issues, but once pest activity becomes noticeable, the tree may already be at risk. If you spot insects, boreholes, frass, or any other signs of an infestation, get in touch with the professionals at Adney Tree Service right away.
A lot of foliar tree diseases tend to be mild and don’t usually threaten a tree’s long-term health. Still, there are exceptions — and even the “harmless” ones can create trouble if they show up year after year. That’s why it’s smart to have an arborist check things out whenever you notice recurring leaf issues.
Trees are remarkably resilient. They’ve evolved to thrive in natural environments and withstand everything from strong storms to pests to everyday stress. Some species have even adapted to recurring wildfires, developing thick bark and producing cones that only open when exposed to intense heat.
But the modern Central Coast looks very different from the environments these trees evolved in. The soil is often compacted and lacking essential nutrients. Non-native turf grasses compete for moisture. Air and water pollution introduce toxins trees were never meant to handle. Because of this, trees need a little extra support to stay healthy in today’s landscape.
That’s where Adney Tree Service comes in. We understand these challenges and know how to give your trees the care they need. Whether you’re choosing new trees for a busy commercial property or looking for proper pruning on a residential lot, we provide the services that help your trees truly thrive.
Every property, job, and tree is unique, so we devise a custom tree-service plan for every client we help. However, we’ve developed a relatively consistent process over the years that helps ensure we provide the kind of service you deserve.
